Create a low-carbon future
With the acceleration of global infrastructure construction, the impact of traditional infrastructure on environmental climate change has become increasingly obvious. Further reducing carbon emissions throughout the life cycle of traditional infrastructure projects and vigorously promoting the construction of new infrastructure are of great practical significance for the international community to respond to climate change and achieve the “dual carbon” standards worldwide.
During the summit forum, Caterpillar’s global vice president Chen Qihua was invited to attend and speak at the theme forum on “Trends, Opportunities and Challenges in the Development of International Infrastructure under the Context of ‘Dual Carbon'”. He shared Caterpillar’s understanding and related practices of sustainable innovation from three aspects: product technology innovation, construction solutions and lean digital operational excellence. The following is the transcript of his speech.
Product technology innovation
It is essential to use products that are constantly upgraded, as newer generations are often more sustainable. Overseas engineering projects take a long time, and using continuously updated products is a way to make projects more efficient and economical, with a sustainable impact.
Today I would like to share with you a few prominent examples. Foreseeing the trend of electrification, Caterpillar launched products such as electric-drive bulldozers and diesel-electric hybrid wheel loaders a few years ago, and recently launched a large electric mining truck that has been proven to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We have also worked with our dealer PON to develop a battery-powered medium-sized excavator to provide zero-emission solutions for engineering customers.
In addition to the continuous introduction of new equipment product lines, cutting-edge new technologies that integrate renewable power sources are constantly emerging, such as the use of clean hydrogen energy as a fuel option for reciprocating engines and gas turbines, as well as batteries and battery management systems, photovoltaic products, etc. Caterpillar is also focused on providing new technology solutions. Many of our advanced power products have been put into use on customer construction sites, helping customers achieve climate-related goals and meet their needs for performance, durability and economic value. With more expectations for the future, we are currently developing a hydrogen fuel cell system project for powering data centers..
Innovative construction solutions to help customers achieve climate goals
Lean digital solutions improve operational excellence
The realization of a low-carbon future requires the joint efforts of all companies in the infrastructure construction industry. Caterpillar will continue to work closely with customers and industry colleagues to identify existing and new challenges, understand your expectations and needs, and provide products and solutions to help you achieve longer-term success and build a better world together in a more sustainable way!
